I just realized I forgot to answer my own question! In 1996 I bought one and received another as a gift and they both had blue yes. They were both bought in California. This year, 2003, I received two as gifts. They both had blue eyes. One was from Connecticut and the other was from the Netherlands. I received one as a gift last year too, but can't find it right now.
Anyway, judging from everybody's reply thus far it, everybody who bought one within the last three years seems to have gotten one with blue eyes. The older ones 6+ years ago seem to all have had red eyes. I don't think we've heard from anyone who got theirs 4 or 5 years ago. But anyway, there does seem to be a trend!!
