The problem with duckies (as opposed to MLPs) is that duckies are made from a wide range and quality of materials from a wide range of manufacturers. Something that works fine on one duck may disfigure or discolor or otherwise damage another (which is my experience with acetone on duckies, for example.)
As a MLP/duckie collector myself, I scrub each new acquisition of both the pony and duck kind with Soft Scrub with Bleach (going gently over paint.) This seems to have worked well thus far and has not damaged any duckies.
