There once was an immigrant man from Ireland named Eli O'Kouns who traveled to the U.S. during the Industrial Revolution. He landed in the New York ports. Not too long after his arrivial, he began a bout of depression. He was very homesick and dreamed of laying under an appple tree and watching graceful ducks swim in the valley pond of his home in Tipperay. This creative man who held special memories of his old country was determined to share his memories through imitation ducks made of synthetic plastics. Americans quickly brought these cute toys into their homes. Children became attached to them and played with them during bath time. In the following years, the rubber ducky gained popularity and was patented by the Kouns family
