Hi Jill,
FYT stands for First Years Type and is a name I made up for a category of ducks that looks similar. Initially, I called the category First Years Type because of there is a super common duck made my The First Years that looks like that and is widely available. However, although the First Years has been making rubber ducks for a long time, they were NOT the first ones to use that design. That design, or ones similar to it, probably sprang up in the 1940s.
Some people call that type of duck the "Nesting" type because the duck looks like it is sitting on a nest. I think that is a great name too. I actually would like to rename a lot of the categories that I made up. When I came up with the names, it never occurred to me that people would actually use them--or need to use them. It's funny because whenever I meet another long-time collector they each have their own names for different categories of ducks! One of the things I'd like
to do is come up with some really solid names for the different types of duckies so it will be easier for all of us collectors to describe duckies to each other!
